GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Fans flocking to Titletown for the NFL Draft won’t have to worry about spotty cell service, thanks to recent upgrades by T-Mobile.
For over a year, the service provider has been preparing for the big event by completing permanent upgrades at Lambeau Field, around the Titletown District and across the entire city of Green Bay.
Ultra Capacity 5G will offer fast coverage in densely populated areas, and Extended Range 5G will extend network coverage across a wider area.
One upgrade is a distributed antenna system in Lambeau Field covering the entire stadium, which is said to boost peak speeds by 10 times. T-Mobile also made upgrades to airports in Green Bay, Appleton, Milwaukee and Chicago and upgraded dozens of locations across the city, such as popular hotels.
“With the influx of individuals coming in and accessing their networks, they needed to make sure that they provided the extra bandwidth, if you will, for their users to use data, use cellular phone technology, things of that nature, while they’re at the NFL Draft,” said Joel Gregozeski, the village manager for Ashwaubenon.
We understand things like streaming services and things like that are important to the customers, so they wanted to expand that bandwidth for those visitors that are coming to the area, and we wanted to make sure we supported that, recognizing that that adds to the fan experience for the draft.
Officials say these upgrades won’t just benefit fans and visitors at the draft, but also community members and businesses in Green Bay, long after the three-day event comes to a close.
“I think it adds value and benefit, obviously, for our residents and the community as a whole. Not only is it going to support the members of the draft, but any of the community members that access those services are going to have added bandwidth and capability and resources, and then it also adds to the experience for Packers home games and other major events that come to our community,” Gregozeski said.
Additionally, T-Mobile has brought in temporary network upgrades to support the estimated 240,000 NFL Draft attendees, deploying a COLT — or cell on light truck — and a monopole antenna, to further enhance the cell service during draft festivities.
